2019 High School course selection window is open between January 11th – February 15th!

Dear High School Parents and Students;

Estimados Padres y Estudiantes de Secundaria;

Early in the Spring Semester students complete the registration/request process for the following year. After carefully reviewing available courses, students, parents, and teachers choose an appropriate and realistic course plan.

Durante el semestre de la primavera los estudiantes completarán su registro para el próximo año. Después de  analizar los cursos cautelosamente, los estudiantes, los padres y maestros escogerán un plan realista y apropiado que cumpla con las necesidades del alumno.

Course selections will be available between January 14th – February 15th (Except the breaks). Please, establish an appointment on school website with your counselor to make course selection throughout the Naviance.  The initial schedules will be passed out by March 25th. The students who are concerned about any course update requests must fill out the schedule change request form between March 25th to 29th, 2019 and return to their counselors. All schedules will be approved and completed by April 30th. 

Las selecciones de cursos estarán disponibles entre el 14 de enero al 15 de febrero (excepto en los días de descanso). Por favor, solicite una cita con el consejero para hacer la selección de cursos a través de “Naviance”   Los horarios iniciales serán entregados  el 25 de marzo del 2019. Los estudiantes que estén preocupados y deseen hacer un cambio en su horario deben llenar una forma de cambio de horario entre el 25 de marzo al 29 de marzo del 2019 y deberá ser entregado a los consejeros. Los horarios serán aprobados y completados para el 30 de abril del2019.

The schedules will only be adjusted to change courses that require tryouts/auditions and for completion of summer school courses with Dean of Academics prior approval.   It is not guaranteed that your child will receive all classes that are requested on this course selection sheet. The master schedule is planned on the basis of students’ requests and we will do our best to honor your child’s request if it is possible.

Los horarios solos serán modificados para las clases que requieran audiciones,  ensayos, o cursos en verano, con la aprobación previa del Decano Académico.  No hay una garantía de que el estudiante reciba todos los cursos  que solicitó en la forma de selección de cursos.  El horario general está planeado o creado basado en las preferencias de los alumnos y haremos todo lo posible en honrar las solicitudes de sus hijos.

FAFSA Night

Do the FAFSA | The earlier the better

Hello senior parents and students!

As we mentioned on our Senior Night, we have a FAFSA workshop coming up! FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid which is a MUST for your student to get financial aid for both community and 4-year colleges. We will also have support for students filling out TASFA. We will have access to computers and experts, college counselors will be helping you and your family to complete this form during the event. Please fill out this form at school website as an RSVP.

The session is in the high school computer lab on Tuesday, October 9th at 6 pm. Food and soft drink will be provided!

To complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the student will need:

Social Security Number
Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
Parent 2017 federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
An FSA ID for parent and student to sign electronically.

MAP Testing

Dear HSD Students and Parents,

Measures of Academic Progress test (MAP) will be progressed next weeks in September.

Each student takes the MAP tests on a computer during regular class periods. Each test may take more than one hour since the tests are based on the students’ knowledge and ability.6th -10th grade students will be testing Math, Reading, Language, and Science (except 9th and 10th grades).

We would like to encourage you to motivate your child regarding this important test.

Please have your child to watch videos below which gives direction on how to take MAP test.

8th-12th grade Parent Information Nights

Dear HSD High School parents and students;

We will have high school grade level parent information nights where we will talk about important information regarding students` high school journeys! You may find the sessions below. All sessions will be in the high school cafeteria all. The pizza and soft drinks will be provided.

Grade 12 Tuesday, Sep 25th 2018 at 6pm (We will talk about graduation requirements, senior timeline, college applications, financial aid, graduation ceremony among other topics during senior night.)

Grade 11 and 10 Thursday, October 11th 2018 at 6pm (We will be going over the Dual credit opportunity at HSD, College Readiness standards and Junior and Sophomore years checklist.)

Grade 9 Thursday, October 4th 2018 at 6pm (College plans, course selection process and endorsements, AP and Dual credits, PSAT/TSI Testing, Summer opportunities)

Grade 8 Tuesday, Oct 2nd 2018 at 6pm (High School planning with graduation plans and endorsements, PSAT and TSI, Advance academics opportunities, high school sport, and extra curriculum activities and more.) RSVP is required for each information night above.
